One of the many blessings at Cornerstone Prep is our wonderful, devoted staff that goes over and beyond what the job description entails. Each takes to heart the following verse:
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
Angela Heitz, our “AP History Queen”, spent part of her summer in the College Board’s Annual AP Reading in World History. Each June, AP teachers and college faculty members from around the world gather in the United States to evaluate and score the free-response sections of the AP Exams. This year the group met in Salt Lake City, Utah.
“I gained a wealth of knowledge imbued in, but certainly not limited to pedagogy and classroom instructional techniques,” said Mrs. Heitz, “and it was an honor to participate in the AP Reading for the World History exam.”
Our Own "AP History Queen"
“Angela Heitz has been our AP World and AP US History teacher for several years. Mrs. Heitz makes her history classes come alive with interactive modules of instruction for her students,” said Kyle Hamilton, secondary principal.
“Mrs. Heitz is always seeking to enhance her instruction to benefit her AP students. Her method of professional development comes in the way of serving as an AP reader.” 2016 marked Mrs. Heitz’ second year as an AP Reader.
Mrs. Hamilton said, “While serving as an AP reader Mrs. Heitz interacted with her AP colleagues from around the country and attended AP professional development sessions. Her motivation in serving as a reader is to perfect and refine her instructional strategies for the benefit of her AP students. To quote Mrs. Heitz-‘History is more than dead guys and dates in her classes!’”
Mrs. Heitz looks for ways to make history come alive and fun, such as this fun video.

AP High Standards
“Mrs. Heitz’ commitment to high standards and expertise in evaluating student work are invaluable to the continued success of the AP Program,” said Trevor Packer, senior vice president, AP and College Readiness, The College Board. “It fosters professionalism, allows for the exchange of ideas, and strengthens the commitment to students and teaching.”

Cornerstone Prep's AP Program
As a bonus, Cornerstone students in the AP World History, WHAP, and AP Literature, APLit, classes had a 100% pass rate for 2016. We are undeniably proud of the hard work these students, and teachers, put into these difficult classes.
Currently, Cornerstone Prep offers three AP courses onsite: AP World History, AP US History, and AP Literature. Students can also take various AP classes via Cornerstone Virtual Academy. All students must be pre-approved before they can take an AP class.
