Imagine meeting someone in person that you've admired for decades!
As I was entering my first year as a school principal in 1994, I read Ken Blanchard's book The One Minute Manager. Over the last 22 years, I've read several more of his books, including Raving Fans, The Servant Leader, and The Generosity Factor.
Ken Blanchard was a featured speaker at the Growing Leaders Conference that seven of our administrative staff were privileged to attend this June. Ken is one of the most influential leadership experts in the world, and his speaking skills are excellent. During the hour he spoke, we were all riveted by his story-telling wisdom and humor as he gave out many nuggets about leadership.
A special privilege for each table leader was the honor of getting to spend time with him during a private lunch event. I was honored to be invited to this event, and found Ken to be the same in a small setting as when he was speaking to our entire convention: Humble, funny and wise.
More than anything, I was impressed with his role in his company as the Chief Spiritual Officer.
More than anything, I was impressed with his role in his company as the Chief Spiritual Officer. In his early years Ken found huge unexpected success with his first book, The One Minute Manager. The book was a bestseller for over three years, and with that came much financial success. With this success came questions on why God had allowed him such blessings, and through his success he came to know Jesus Christ personally. Ken and his wife, Margie, his business co-founder, have used their influence throughout many decades to present biblical principles of leadership to the business world.
It's a privilege to implement many of his wise leadership principles while working at Cornerstone Prep each day. Meeting this "hero of the faith" reminds me that each of us have our own place of service and influence, but integrity and wisdom are essential no matter who or where we are.
