From Pastor Brandon
The big idea is obedience this month.
1 Samuel 15:22 says, "Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams." A simple clerk was obedient to his call to serve in a small hotel in Philadelphia. One night an elderly couple came in late and requested a room. Unfortunately, there were no rooms but the clerk hated to send the couple away in the cold and rain. He insisted they stay in his personal room. The couple was blown away by the sacrifice of the young man.
Two years later the young clerk received a letter from the old man with a plane ticket to New York. The old man met the clerk and took him to the corner of Fifth Avenue and 34th Street. There he showed the young clerk a grand new hotel, called the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. He had just built it and wanted the clerk to become the manager!
If personal sacrifice is this rewarding, imagine the power of obedience and submitting to those in authority. At a time when many believe you achieve by walking over and lording over others, God calls us to be obedient. It's important that our students understand that we are called to be obedient and submit to those in authority.
Parents, church leaders, teachers, school staff, bosses, and many others deserve a submissive heart and attitude. God has proved over and over in scripture that obedience, even when it doesn't seem rational, is always the right move to see His will revealed.
Parents, church leaders, teachers, school staff, bosses, and many others deserve a submissive heart and attitude.
