In a recent school culture survey of Cornerstone families, over 94% of current Cornerstone families agreed or strongly agreed with the following statement:
Cornerstone Prep shares the responsibility of student learning with its stakeholders.
This response confirms what University-Model® schooling is all about. Cornerstone Prep’s mission is to partner with parents to build within their children a firm foundation of academic excellence and Christian discipleship.
University-Model® schooling was developed as a result of two guiding concerns:
- To offer students the opportunity to acquire a high degree of academic achievement
- To preserve and strengthen the God-ordained family relationships in which the Christian faith is most effectively fostered.

Head of School Jeanne Borders explains the importance of Cornerstone parents understanding and believing in this partnership concept, “Cornerstone Prep is unique in forming a true parent partnership with the school. Our school would be no different than any other Christian school if this parent partnership didn't exist. The education of the students at Cornerstone Prep is a shared responsibility that looks different in different grade levels, but is vital in each partnership.”
Cornerstone Prep is grateful for our dedicated parents because UM schooling only works when both partners are willing to do their part. Though their parent roles change as their children grow, Cornerstone parents agree that this unique model works for them.
“Cornerstone offers my family what I consider to be the best of both worlds, the chance to be educated at home much of the week and also the opportunity to be exposed to professional teachers in a traditional classroom setting. And of course, the chance to make friends and to interact with other children and adults in a social setting.”--Elementary Parent
“As a family, we wanted some of the time back often lost with after school homework and activities. Cornerstone and the UM school allows for this. Also having the parent role be predominant was important. It is a great bonus that this school preps for college planning.”--Middle School Parent
Cornerstone offers a …“small, Christian environment with a College Prep model that encourages students to manage their schedule/time as they will need to in years to come. This process has been a fantastic model for my children as it has fostered great independence and time management skills. Most important to Bill and I are the great relationships the students have with the teachers, love, grace given, and high expectations.”--High School Parent

The Nuts & Bolts
In partnership with committed parents, the UM school is then able to integrate the home and school effectively toward the common goal of Christian character development and solid academic preparation for college. Parents agree to release enough responsibility to the school and teachers concerning curriculum, course load, classroom instruction, and pace, and academic student progress standards, as well as school discipline to ensure the great success of the students at Cornerstone Prep.
The key to success for the UM model is the harmonizing of a biblically based, parentally guided, Christian faith and a sound, teacher-facilitated, academic environment. Depending on the age of the child, the parental role varies, but the parent and the school work hand in hand toward a common goal.
Cornerstone Prep operates under the umbrella of parental authority by offering a challenging academic track in the context of Christian values. We unapologetically speak and teach in a manner consistent with our Statement of Faith, emphasizing the necessity of a personal relationship with Christ and growth in Christ-like character.
We also help parents correctly place each of your children at an appropriate stage of academic development. Also, Cornerstone develops and implements academically challenging, college-preparatory courses that integrate an appropriate level of parental involvement into each student’s off campus classroom study.
As teachers encourage and expect each student to learn the material assigned, the teachers provide regular feedback to both the student and parents concerning the student’s progress in each class enrolled. Finally, the school will integrate the Christian faith and a biblical worldview into the context of the various subject areas offered, to the end that Christian character-building will receive support and enhancement outside the home.
