- Student Stories
Ninth-grader Ella White recently placed third in the Lands' End Love Learning art contest in the 11-14 age group. The purpose of the contest was to inspire students to pursue quality summer learning opportunities. For her winning entry, Ella received a free Lands’ End backpack and lunch box.
We caught up with Ella to learn about her passion for art and the motivation behind her award-winning artwork.
What was the inspiration behind the artwork you submitted for this contest?
I love to travel, and I am very privileged to say I have been everywhere I have. One of my favorite things about traveling is all of the new things you learn!
The first thing that came into my mind when the contest said to show how you love learning was definitely travel. The story behind this painting is that everywhere you go there is always a new adventure, you just have to look in the right places!
Have you taken any art classes at CPA? If so, what was/is your favorite part and how has it helped you develop your art skills?
I took art classes with Mrs. Barrett in the spring semesters of 7th and 8th grade. I love how she teaches us different techniques that can be used for almost everything, which has definitely helped me improve my art skills.
What is your favorite form of artwork?
I love to paint with watercolors and sometimes acrylics. My favorite part about watercolors is how the colors blend, and it isn’t very hard to put detail in it.
