Senior Spotlight: Kayla McDonald
Kayla McDonald

During the month of May, we spotlight our seniors. This week, Senior Kayla McDonald shares how she plans to pursue a gap year with Global Year.

After I graduate high school at Cornerstone, I will be following God’s calling to take a gap year and travel to Spain with Global Year for eight months! My plan at the beginning of my senior year was to go to college but God completely changed that plan. I will be going to Spain with an organization called Global Year and partnering with a church to share God’s light with the people of A Coruna, Spain.

Cornerstone, along with my church and serving opportunities throughout high school, has prepared me to take this huge step of faith. At Cornerstone, all of the teachers I have had throughout the years have invested and poured so much into me above just academics. Cornerstone’s teachers truly love their students and teach you not only academics but share advice and lessons that I will carry with me in Spain and the rest of my life.

"I will always remember the impact and love Cornerstone has given me since third grade and the experiences they gave me that led me to say yes to God and no to the fear of the unknown."

I’m so grateful for the experiences that Cornerstone has given me to grow in my faith and the freedom to worship God at school. I can’t wait to see how God works through my entire team and me when He takes me to Spain to serve for the glory of His kingdom. I would greatly appreciate for my Cornerstone family to keep me in their prayers as I take on this calling God has laid on my heart.

I will always remember the impact and love Cornerstone has given me since third grade and the experiences they gave me that led me to say yes to God and no to the fear of the unknown. A verse that I have been clinging onto for this trip but can apply to anything that you do in your life is, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
