I don’t do New Year’s resolutions, instead I like to focus on organizing my surroundings and my life each January. This year I learned of a practice that I’d like to share with you.
David Balik, the Southeast Regional Director at Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), in his January email to member schools, suggested choosing and focusing on one word throughout the year.
He and his wife have done this for many years and have been blessed by how the Lord has used their one word to change them. They have also been able to encourage others by sharing their word and the corresponding verses they have chosen to focus on.
Balik says, “We have found that a single word helps us simplify our lives by focusing on just ONE WORD for the entire year. The simplicity of discovering a word that God has for you makes it a catalyst for life change. Clutter and complexity lead to procrastination and paralysis, while simplicity and focus lead to success and clarity.”
Because of my need to organize each January, that last sentence really spoke to me!
I’ve chosen my word for 2020, and I invite you to join me. This 4-day devotional and action plan that Balik suggests will guide you through the process. There is also a website: getoneword.com that has lots of helpful resources.
If you’d like to share your word with me, email me and I’ll tell you mine!
