I love Christmas music! My family gets a little weary of me playing it non-stop all season long, but I just can't get enough. I anxiously await for the Christmas channels on my XM car radio to go live, and I spend my 45-minute commute singing along at the top of my lungs.
My favorite songs and carols are the ones about baby Jesus or the nativity. While I enjoy everything from "Jingle Bells" to "All I Want for Christmas is You," there is just something about the story of Jesus's birth that I love to hear in a song. I am always brought to tears when I sing along to songs like "Silent Night" and "Mary, Did You Know," but my most favorite is "Little Drummer Boy." The story of a boy who comes to worship Jesus by playing his drum for Him gets me every time!
I'm not sure why I am so drawn to these songs. It might be because I'm a mom, and I can relate to what I can only imagine Mary and Joseph must have felt when they were caring for their newborn baby, knowing that He was the Messiah. Or maybe it's because my love language is giving gifts, and the thought of a little drummer boy giving the only gift he had resonates with me. More likely it's that I need the reminder that Jesus is the reason why I'm celebrating Christmas.
As we find ourselves rushing around to get all of our Christmas shopping done or stressing about making our house perfect for guests, let's remember to refocus our hearts and minds on the celebration of Jesus's birth.
Let's take some time to engage in a practice that helps us celebrate Christmas in a meaningful way. For me that's listening to Christmas music on repeat. What is it for you?
Wishing you a Merry Christmas!
