Elementary: Grades Kindergarten through 6

At Cornerstone, elementary students are taught to think critically and articulate what they believe and why they believe it. We hope to instill a passion for learning, self-discipline, and obedience to parents and authority. Most importantly, we partner with parents by sharing the gospel and showing how it relates to all areas of our lives and education.

As students move through elementary school, they develop a greater sense of responsibility and independence. Parents serve as co-teachers during these early years, working closely with the classroom teacher to further develop the students' skills and knowledge at home.

Elementary Academic Highlights

  • All subjects taught from a biblical worldview
  • Rigorous standards for producing quality work
  • Individual attention, with an average student-teacher ratio of 16:1
  • Academic competitions:
    • ACSI Spelling Bees
    • Math Olympics
    • Creative Writing
    • Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Contest
  • Technology integration in most lessons: Chromebooks are provided for in-class work for grades 5-6
  • Standardized testing annually in grades 3-6
  • A wide array of electives, including fine arts, available for all grades

On-Campus vs. Off-Campus Days

Elementary students are on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Off campus days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

  • On-campus days involve more hands-on, interactive learning with teachers and classmates.
  • Off-campus days are more “pencil and paper” type tasks that parents can easily oversee.

Why Kindergarten through 6?

From the inception of the school, the decision was made to keep 6th grade as part of elementary.

This was done from years of experience, especially with boys, who do not yet have the skills needed to navigate all the different teachers and organization needed for entering middle school.

Having 6th graders with our elementary students also allows them to feel like leaders rather than the youngest in middle school. It gives our students the time to mature so that grades 7-8 and the new pressures that come with that are more manageable.
