Last week, secondary teacher Mrs. White had a very special visitor during her Around the World elective class.
Dr. Akanmu G. Adebayo, born in Nigeria, now calls the United States his home. He is the professor of history at Kennesaw State University and is a neighbor of a Cornerstone family.
Dr. Adebayo shared a mesmerizing presentation with our seventh and eighth grade students. His incredible presentation included many components such as:
- African culture
- Geological features
- Crops that are grown
- Languages that are spoken
- Peculiar foods that are eaten
- Their education system
His powerpoint presentation for the students showed pictures of the beautiful scenery, from lakes and mountains to the contrasting plains and deserts. He also brought many items from Africa for the students to see, all hand-made.
Also included in his presentation were several different musical instruments, fans, decorative carvings, parchments, jewelry, and chocolate bars from Ghana made from cocoa beans grown there. The chocolate was a class favorite!
