Around Cornerstone: News

Award-Winning Author Visits Cornerstone

On October 24th, award-winning author and speaker, Jenny L. Cote returned to Cornerstone courtesy of Cobb EMC and Gas South Literacy Week 2019.

Our kindergarten through third grade students enjoyed her CREATE workshop featuring Jenny’s book on Noah's Ark, and they learned how creative writing is like painting a picture in your mind and writing what you see.  By animating animal figurines, Jenny brought colorful characters to life, and described the importance and, yes, FUN of doing research!

Second grade student, Maryellyn Ostell said, “I liked hearing about every single character in the story. I think my favorite is the cat, Liz.  One of the best things was that we got to write the first sentence of the book!”

Meanwhile, our fourth through sixth graders learned how to write historical fiction as Jenny explained the process she uses to write her American Revolution series. They learned how to choose a character, do crucial research, and organize their stories.

Sixth grade student, Luke Baker added " I really enjoyed hearing her tips and examples for writing a good story, specifically historical fiction since we are currently working on that in our writing/English classes."

Jenny has visited Cornerstone several times over the years, but not since 2016.

Likened to C. S. Lewis by readers and book reviewers alike, Jenny speaks on creative writing to schools, universities, and conferences around the world.

Jenny has a passion for making history fun for kids of all ages, instilling in them a desire to discover their part in HIStory. Her love for research has taken her to most Revolutionary sites in the U.S., to London (with unprecedented access to Handel House Museum to write in Handel’s composing room), Oxford (to stay in the home of C. S. Lewis, ‘the Kilns’, and interview Lewis’ secretary, Walter Hooper, at the Inklings’ famed The Eagle and Child Pub), Paris, Normandy, Rome, Israel, and Egypt.

Jenny’s books are available online and in stores around the world, as well as e-book and Audible (The Ark, the Reed, and the Fire Cloud). She has also been interviewed by nationally syndicated radio, television, print media, and international publications.  Jenny holds two marketing degrees from the University of Georgia and Georgia State University. A Virginia native, Jenny now lives with her family in Roswell, Georgia.

Jenny is extending the 15% discount for Cornerstone families until November. 1st, valid on personalized copies of her seven books or book bundles. Please visit her website and use code CORNER2019 at check-out.  Books will be shipped directly to your home.
