Eighteen years have passed since the course of history was changed when nearly 3,000 lives were lost during the September 11th attacks. Most of our students at Cornerstone weren’t even born yet, so September 11th is just that...history.
This past week during Elementary Chapel, Pastor Nolan spoke to the students about being salt and light in the world. He also discussed what the word sacrifice means. He then talked about the events of 9/11 and the sacrifice made by the 343 New York City firefighters from 75 different firehouses who gave their lives to save others that day.
Our kindergarten through third grade students then were given the task of coloring cards for the 75 firehouses in New York City that suffered losses that day.
They had four different designs from which to choose, and our students did a charming job coloring them.
Our fourth through sixth grade students completed these cards by writing heartfelt messages and filling the cards with scriptures. One student in particular wrote, “All of us southerners are praying for ya’ll.”
We are so proud of how our elementary students approached this project, and we know the firefighters will be blessed as they receive these colorful cards filled with encouragement.
