Cornerstone 7th and 8th grade students read "I’ll Always Write Back" for their summer reading assignment. This book tells the true story of an all-American girl and a boy from Zimbabwe who became pen pals in middle school, and how the friendship formed through their letters changed both of their lives.
During chapel last week, our middle school students met to discuss the book. They were surprised and excited to learn that they have all been matched with a pen pal from Africa!
Their penpals are also middle schoolers who attend Brighton Academy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Brighton Academy was started in 2016 by Brighton Their World, a nonprofit started by Tymm and Laura Hoffman. You can learn more about their incredible adventure and the start of Brighton Academy on the Brighton Their World and Brighton Academy of Excellence Facebook pages. Their tale is a hard, yet beautiful testimony of God’s faithfulness when we trust and follow Him, one small step at a time.
Their first letters will be hand delivered to Brighton Academy by kindergarten teacher Mrs. Daniel during her mission trip to Ethiopia the first week of October. She will then bring letters and pictures back for our students.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to expand their worldview and grow global hearts.
