Beyond the Bell

Beyond the Bell

Here at Cornerstone, we love cheering on our student-athletes. But the final bell doesn’t mark the end of our students’ commitment, discipline, and drive. Many of our students are also pursuing competitive athletics and leadership opportunities outside of school, and we are so proud of the way they represent our community wherever they go.

Recently, we sent a Google Form directly to our fifth through twelfth-grade students, inviting them to share the extracurricular activities they participate in outside of school. The students featured below are some of the responses we received!  These extracurricular activities don’t replace what we offer at Cornerstone; they expand opportunities and allow our students to explore unique passions, build confidence, and compete at high levels.

To our current students: if you’ve ever wondered what opportunities are out there, take this as your sign to explore. Try something new. Develop a talent. Step onto a field, into a studio, onto a trail, or into service.

Here’s a glimpse of what some of our students are doing beyond campus!

Equestrian Excellence

Several Cornerstone students are making their mark in the equestrian world.

Haven Caskey (8) competes in hunter/jumper events through the Interscholastic Equestrian Association. She recently placed first individually and with her team at Regionals and has qualified for Zone Championships in North Carolina. If she advances, she’ll compete at the national level!

Anya Mathieu (6) has been competing in English horseback riding for five years. She participates in show jumping, cross country, and dressage competitions, disciplines that require focus, strength, and a deep partnership with her horse.

Leah Vittetoe (7) also rides and previously competed regularly. Now, she enjoys trail rides and fox hunting, continuing her love for the sport in new ways.

Mountain Biking Momentum

Cornerstone riders are tearing up the trails with Georgia’s competitive mountain biking teams.

Savannah Cyr (6) rides with the Allatoona Creek Mountain Bike Team. This is her first year racing, and she enjoys everything from team practices to adding glitter before competitions to get race-ready!

Levi Sumrall (7) races with the Georgia Cycling Association. He loves the thrill of downhill sections and the excitement of race day competition.

Mountain biking offers students the choice to race competitively or participate for skill development and team camaraderie, a great example of how students can grow at their own pace.

Volleyball Power

While Cornerstone offers volleyball, several students are also playing at the travel and club level.

Brooklyn Lowery (6) is also competing in club volleyball, building her skills beyond the school season.

Sophia Reardon (7) plays for Tsunami Volleyball and recently celebrated an undefeated 5–0 tournament with her teammates. She says volleyball has brought her confidence and joy.

Friday Night Lights & Beyond

Maddox “Pickles” Dupree (6) plays tackle football with Allatoona. He’s been playing since 1st grade, and his team has been to the Super Bowl three times, winning twice, including this past season! Football is a family affair for Maddox, with siblings and parents deeply involved in the program.

Gymnastics, Dance & Athletic Expression

Kensington Jones (7) competes in gymnastics with the Cartersville Stingrays, training and competing in floor, vault, beam, and bars.

Josie Magness (7) participates in competitive travel cheer and races locally to raise money for causes close to her heart, including her family’s foundation, Mission Is Possible, which supports children with disabilities.

Olivia Smith (8) trains in ballet at Spirit of Dance, continuing to refine her technique and performance skills.

Sophie Sumrall (9) has been dancing for 11 years. Through ballet, barre work, pointe, and choreography, she combines discipline with artistry.

Golf & Lifetime Sports

Jase Roginsky (6) plays in the pre-high school PGA Jr. League at Brookstone. He loves that golf is a lifetime sport that his whole family can enjoy together.

Leadership in Action

Not all extracurriculars are athletic.

Abby Holston (9) serves in the Paulding County Public Safety Cadets Unit 110. She trains in both police and fire procedures, learning skills such as de-escalation, crime scene investigation, fire rescue techniques, and emergency response. Through staged competitions, cadets respond to realistic scenarios led by professionals.

Lucy Satcher (7) has been involved in Scouting America for eight years. Through camping, leadership opportunities, and community service, she has developed lasting friendships and strong outdoor skills.

Beyond the Game

We believe extracurricular involvement builds resilience, confidence, leadership, and joy. Whether competing on a travel team, riding through wooded trails, performing on stage, serving their community, or representing Cornerstone in school athletics, our students are learning discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.

And no matter where you compete, practice, or perform, you’ll always have a Cornerstone family cheering you on!

If your activity isn’t listed above, drop it in the comments below. We would love to celebrate you! Whether it’s athletics, the arts, leadership, service, or something unique, your Cornerstone family wants to cheer you on.

And now for a little extra fun.....

To encourage participation, every student who submitted the Google Form was entered into a drawing for a Chick-fil-A gift card. Congratulations to Levi Sumrall (7), our winner! Please come to the front desk to pick it up! Thank you to everyone who took the time to share what you’re involved in. We loved reading your responses.

Covering IMPACT Week in Prayer

Every spring something special happens at Cornerstone. High school classrooms give way to airports, hiking trails, city streets, and mission fields. Lessons move beyond textbooks and into real conversations, acts of service, and moments where students see God at work in the world around them. Today, take a moment to discover where our students are serving this week, and how you can be praying for them along the way.
