Cornerstone Families Share Fun Christmas Traditions

The holidays are full of treasured family traditions – from Christmas trees and cookies to caroling and lights– there’s something special for everyone during this holiday season. Traditions give us something to look forward to, they bring families together, and they create lasting memories.  That’s why we wanted to learn what Christmas traditions our Cornerstone families share every year. So we asked some of you, and it’s safe to say, our hearts grew three sizes today!

Christmas Lights

Our favorite family Christmas tradition is all loading into the car with popcorn and driving around to see Christmas light displays together. The Ramsey Family

One of my favorite family traditions is going and seeing lights. We all make hot chocolate, and sometimes, we make homemade marshmallows. They taste amazing. My grandmother always comes, too. One night, we go to the botanical gardens with her. The botanical gardens are beautiful and huge. It has so many well-designed and amazing lights. We also drive around one night and look at people's houses that are really well decorated. There are some houses we go to that let us walk through their yards and look at everything. My favorite part of this tradition is spending time with my family and taking pictures.  Sydney Jane Goodson (7)

Family Matters

My favorite tradition is traveling to spend time with my extended family (i.e. grandma, aunties, uncle, cousins, etc.)! Genesis Phillips (K)

Every Christmas my family and I go to my grandfather's and grandmother's and she cooks the best meal ever! We all have chocolate cake and some hot chocolate and then we open presents! This Christmas was very special because my grandmother had a double lung transplant and we did not even know if we would get to spend Christmas at all with her this year. It was very special that we got her back! Aisley Ann Womack (7)

We enjoy the peace and slow pace of the mountains at our cabin every Christmas. The Holmes Family

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is taking each child shopping individually to look for gifts for their siblings. They each work in November on chores and good behavior to earn money to shop. They have so much fun picking out the perfect gift for each other, and so much joy is shared watching each other open on Christmas morning! The McCurry Family

My favorite family tradition is our cousins sleepover at my grandmother's house. We play all sorts of games and do lots of cooking. Riley Cahoon (7)

My favorite Christmas tradition is seeing all of our family; I always like the rush of excitement when we get to see our family again. Then, after all of the social gatherings, we go to the Christmas Eve service at our church. Emily Provost (10)

How Sweet It Is

I’ve been baking Czech kolache with my grandpa since I was a teenager. He grew up making them with his mom. When my kids were old enough, they helped, too. Now that he has passed, my kids and I still carry on the tradition.  The Lee Family

We have a cookie day (for both sides of our family, cousins & grandparents included) every year, and we also get hot chocolate and go see Christmas lights together as a family. The Dupree Family

We make gingerbread houses to add to our gingerbread village! The Moore Family

In New Jersey, we used to have the Feast of the Seven Fishes. It's just the four of us now so we don't do all of that, but I make at least one fish dish so my husband can feel like it's Christmas. The Hart Family

May You Never Be Too Grown Up to Search the Skies on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, we make reindeer food and then throw it out in the yard for the reindeer to eat while Santa is leaving the presents under the tree. The Clark Family

On Christmas Eve, we pull the couch near the fireplace and enjoy a fire while we eat Mexican seven-layer dip for dinner and then enjoy hot cocoa and cookies after. The Miller Family

Our favorite family Christmas tradition is baking a birthday cake on Christmas Eve. The kids decorate the cake and we sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. A reminder that HE is the true reason for the season.  The Sandru Family

Jesus’ Birthday

After the girls go to sleep the evening before their birthdays, we decorate the family room with colored balloons and streamers. When they wake up, they walk into a birthday celebration. For Christmas morning, we apply the same thinking. After the girls go to sleep on Christmas Eve, we decorate the family room with red and white balloons and streamers - red for Jesus's blood and white for God's peace. When they wake up on Christmas morning, they walk into a celebration of Jesus's birthday. It’s a tangible way to depict Christmas morning as Jesus’s birthday.   The Kakaty Family

No Santa- just Jesus’s birth! The Gilmer Family

I love when my mom makes cake and we celebrate Jesus' birthday. Sophie Squires (7)

Our favorite family tradition is baking and decorating a birthday cake for Jesus and wearing matching family Christmas pajamas. I love just slowing down and enjoying time with my family. The Saunier Family

We stay in pajamas while we have a coffee cake and strawberries breakfast, read Luke 2 together, and then open gifts together. The Lorenz Family

What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions? No matter how you celebrate, we pray your family will draw closer to Christ. May your Christmas season be filled with precious memories and unforgettable traditions!!

And on earth peace among people with whom He is pleased.”
