Cornerstone Senior Responds To God’s Call

As graduation approaches, lingering questions are in the hearts of many students nervous to take the next steps. “Should I go straight to college?” “Take a gap year?” "Go on a short-term mission trip?” It’s so crucial in the midst of these tough decisions that you hear God’s voice, walk in His direction, and follow His lead. Read below as Cornerstone senior, Courtney King, shares how she plans to step into her future with confidence and a strong desire to point others to Jesus.

Sharing The Gospel

Over winter break in February, I had the opportunity to go on my first ever international mission trip to Nicaragua. Going into this trip, I did not know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised by what the Lord did and has continued to do. Over the course of the week, our 58-member team had the opportunity to share the gospel through many activities such as door-to-door evangelism, VBS, and construction, just to name a few. In the twenty-plus hours we spent in the villages, we were able to change lives and see great spiritual growth among our team members. While the entire week was impactful, the most life-changing aspect of the trip was women's ministry. In most cases, public speaking is not my strongest skill. However, through the power of the Lord, I was able to share my testimony to encourage the women in attendance as well as receive encouragement.

A Divine Appointment

While my team was running this activity on Thursday, I had the opportunity to meet a woman named Maria and the Lord spoke through her to encourage me. It was amazing to see how similar our stories were despite being in vastly different stages of our lives. In speaking with her, she shared with me that by sharing my testimony, she was encouraged and told me that simply by being there in Nicaragua and following the Lord, she knew that the Lord has an amazing plan for my life. This was exactly what I needed to hear and thanks to this trip, the Lord has revealed to me what I need to do in the next phase of my life.

Looking Ahead

After graduation, I plan to take the next year to explore how I can get involved in the mission field. As of right now, I am planning on participating in a missionary training program. The reason I selected this type of program is that in addition to teaching how to effectively share the gospel, we will also learn how to use our gifts and talents in this field. After that, I would like to go to college, but will have to wait and see where the Lord leads me.

A Heart For Missions

There is nothing more exciting than being able to participate in something that is greater than myself. In addition to seeing Christians working together as the body of Christ towards a common goal, one of the best parts about missions is seeing lives changed. Those who are filled with the joy of the Lord want nothing more than to share it and it is always encouraging to see.

When it comes to missions, this is a task that is a team effort from those who support financially and through prayers, to those on the ground. I appreciate all the prayers from my Cornerstone family as I continue to walk in all that God has called me to.

Outside Your Comfort Zone

For anyone who wants to get involved in missions, I would say go for it. Just make sure that it is what the Lord is leading you to, and don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. If there is one thing I have taken away from this experience, it is that in the times when we think we cannot do something God always proves otherwise.
