Full Circle

Full Circle

Life has a way of coming full circle in the most unexpected ways. For Cornerstone parent, Meredith Pitts, that circle became a reality this past week during our annual school blood drive. What began as a season of unimaginable trial has transformed into an opportunity to give back and inspire others along the way.

A Life-Altering Day

On March 30, 2021, Meredith’s life changed forever. “I was involved in a high-speed head-on collision with a drunk driver,” she recalled. “Just going to pick up pizza for dinner.” The accident left her with broken femurs, a broken rib, collapsed lungs, a lacerated liver, and internal bleeding. She was rushed to the hospital as a Tier 1 trauma, and received three units of plasma and two units of blood, life-saving gifts from strangers.

Meredith spent three weeks in the hospital and returned home in a wheelchair. Recovery was grueling, requiring extensive physical therapy to rebuild strength and learn to walk again. “Our community at Cornerstone was one of the most amazing blessings from God during that time,” Meredith said.

Fellow parents prayed, chauffeured her kids, and provided meals for months, lifting her family when they could not lift themselves.

Anchored in Faith

Through this season, faith became her anchor. “God never left my side,” Meredith shared.

“There was quite a bit of time when I was alone in the hospital, and I always felt His presence. Knowing that our Lord loved me enough to walk through this with me gave me strength I never knew I had.”

She found comfort in Exodus 14:14: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” This verse became both her battle cry and her whispered prayer, reminding her that even when life is beyond our control, God’s care is never absent.

Recognizing Progress

Recovery did not happen overnight. Each milestone, from moving independently in therapy to regaining strength in her legs, felt like a small victory and a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

“There were moments when I realized how much progress I had made,” she reflected. “Even when the days felt long, looking back on how far I’d come was encouraging and kept me moving forward.”

Giving Back: A Full-Circle Moment

This past week, Meredith had the opportunity to give back in a deeply personal way, by donating blood at Cornerstone’s blood drive. “The blood I received while in the hospital helped save my life!” she said.

Last Friday was the first time I had the opportunity to donate, and what mixed emotions that stirred. But mostly I was overwhelmingly grateful that two people had taken 30–45 minutes of their day to donate a unit of blood and that I was here and able to do the same for someone else.

Meredith describes this as a truly full-circle experience. What was once a life-saving gift for her became a chance to give life to others. “I hope it encourages anyone walking through a hard or uncertain season that God can bring hope, healing, and purpose, even through incredibly hard circumstances,” she said.

A Community That Gives

Our annual blood drive was a tremendous success, thanks to Meredith and many others. We had 48 donors and 10 Beta Club members serving throughout the event. Each donation represents lives touched, and hope restored, a living testament to the power of faith, generosity, and community.

We pray that Meredith’s story inspires you to consider ways you can give back, your time, your support, or even your blood. Just as God worked through others to sustain her life, He can use you to be a blessing in someone else’s journey. If Meredith’s story moves you, consider donating blood through the American Red Cross and give someone else the gift of life.

Covering IMPACT Week in Prayer

Every spring something special happens at Cornerstone. High school classrooms give way to airports, hiking trails, city streets, and mission fields. Lessons move beyond textbooks and into real conversations, acts of service, and moments where students see God at work in the world around them. Today, take a moment to discover where our students are serving this week, and how you can be praying for them along the way.
