My name is Kelsie Hood, and I'm very excited to be joining the Cornerstone family this next school year! I graduated from Lee University this year with my M.S. in School Counseling. I have always had a heart to serve students.
What do you love most about Cornerstone?
I love the opportunity to incorporate my Christian faith among advocating, advising, and empowering students through academic, social/emotional, and career support. For more information about Cornerstone Prep’s academic and college advising program, click here.
How has the Lord opened doors to bring you to Cornerstone?
The Lord has allowed many open doors for me to serve students through co-hosting a Christian teen talk radio show, holding the position of an FCA area representative in Bartow County middle schools, leading middle school and high school girls in summer camps as a camp counselor, and as an elementary school teacher. My prayer from the time I entered the field of school counseling was to be able to work in a Christian environment where I could have the opportunity to help support students in a way that encompassed all aspects of life including faith in Jesus Christ.
Can you tell us a little about your family?
My husband, Aaron, and I met on a blind date that was set up by one of the teachers at Cornerstone in 2018, and we were married in August 2020. We love spending time traveling and playing with our Goldendoodle, Remi. We are currently renovating our first home and are hoping to have a mini farm one day.
What is your counseling approach?
As a Christian school counselor, my goal is to ultimately point students back to Christ in everything I do while combining the training I have received in research-based school counseling. My heart is to advocate for and serve students of all backgrounds in an approach through a comprehensive school counseling program that encourages students to maximize their potential through their individual uniqueness and create life-long learners.
What are you looking forward to the most this school year?
I am excited about the opportunity to serve the Cornerstone family through academic, career, social, and emotional counseling from a Biblical context. I am looking forward to the opportunity to expand the role of the counselor position at Cornerstone. This will include working Monday through Friday and being able to serve both secondary and elementary students. What a blessing it is to be at a school that values God’s word not only as a way of life but through a strong academic environment! I am so excited for the opportunity to be the school counselor at Cornerstone.
Mrs. Hood has been hard at work preparing for the new school year, including working on her website which is full of resources for our families. Secondary students, be on the lookout for Mrs. Hood’s first monthly Counselor’s Corner email in August.
As you see Mrs. Hood around campus, be sure to welcome her to the Cornerstone family!
