First Ever Track Season Ends with a 2nd Place State Finish

History was made in our very first Track & Field season.

Congratulations to senior Henry Ahrens on an incredible 2nd-place finish in the State Track Meet (800m)! Competing against the top runners in the state, Henry represented Cornerstone with excellence, finishing strong with a time of 2:04.

Shoutout to junior Evan Kessler for qualifying for State in both the 800m and 1600m, an impressive accomplishment. While illness kept him from competing, his hard work and determination all season long did not go unnoticed.

We’re also incredibly grateful for Coach Dave Gallant, who led our team through its inaugural season and laid a strong foundation for what’s to come. Here’s what he had to say:

“I had the privilege of coaching the inaugural track season at Cornerstone this year. What began as a whirlwind quickly turned into an incredibly rewarding experience as I became fully invested in the team and in building a competitive program. Being a first-year coach leading a first-year team was truly on-the-job training.

We started the season with seven athletes (five boys and two girls). One athlete was unfortunately unable to compete due to time away, leaving a team of six. Together, we practiced twice a week at Kennesaw Mountain High School and competed in two meets at Alpharetta and Walton. I was especially proud of how much the team improved each week and at every meet.

As a senior, Henry stepped into a strong leadership role and consistently gave his best. His hard work truly paid off. We also had another senior, Jaden Ramlogan, who represented Cornerstone well in short-distance events. I’m grateful for each athlete this season; they were respectful, coachable, and committed to improving. I’m excited to continue building this program and raising the bar for next year’s team.”
