Hi, we’re the Morgan family— Matt, Danielle, Reed (6th), Molly (4th), and Brice (1st). Matt serves as the executive pastor at Sanctuary Church, and I stay busy with our three Cornerstone Cougars. This is our sixth year at Cornerstone, and we’ve loved spending our elementary years on this unique hybrid schedule, alongside so many wonderful families.
This summer, we had the gift of a sabbatical. We were able to visit four national parks, saw the beaches in California, and even made it to Disneyland, but we all agreed that hands-down our favorite week of the summer was our week with Blue Skies Ministry!
Where Skies Are Blue
Blue Skies is a ministry for families facing pediatric cancer. Based locally in Marietta, they spend the summers hosting domestic mission trips where volunteer families come together to staff weeklong beach retreats for guest families, so that the parents, patients, and siblings can all experience reprieve from the many challenges of walking through cancer. Ultimately, their mission is to share the hope and love of Christ with the families they serve.
His Plan Is Always Greater
As we started to make our plans to travel west and experience some adventure, we were also looking for an opportunity to serve together. We are so glad that God pointed us to Blue Skies.
To Love and Be Loved
During our time at Blue Skies, we swam and played and laughed and cried. We met some wonderful people and were able to experience a beautiful picture of the Body of Christ at work. We grew in faith and got to love and be loved right alongside our kids. We embraced some really sacred moments and some really practical, everyday teaching moments all at the same time.
We set out to give and came away full.
A Lasting Impression
We asked our youngest daughter, Brice, 6, what she thought about Blue Skies. "When my mom first told me about Blue Skies, I was excited to go and help kids who have cancer and are having bad days. I saw that a lot of people got to make really good friends. God used me to be a helper and a friend-maker."
Molly, 9, said "It was cool being able to experience what the families were going through and being able to help them have a really fun week. I got to help take care of the workers' kids and I loved that so much."
Reed, 11, said, "I was excited but at the same time kind of scared because I didn't really know what it was going to be like. I thought it was so much fun and I made good friends and I want to go back."
Our time at Blue Skies was life-giving, and we'll definitely be back! If you are interested in a missions opportunity for your family next summer, we highly recommend Blue Skies.
