Around Cornerstone: News

Cornerstone Welcomes New Faculty This Fall

The 2021-22 school year has officially begun with today’s new faculty training. We once again acknowledge the Lord’s faithfulness in providing an excellent team of faculty to teach and lead your children for the upcoming school year.

All staff were recently given the challenge that Joshua gave to the children of Israel in Joshua 3:5, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you." We eagerly anticipate what the Lord will do in our midst this upcoming school year as we seek to honor and follow Him first and foremost.

Please help us welcome these new members of our Cornerstone faculty:

Anne Baines

Elementary: Farm2Fork Teacher
Education: Ryde College of TAFE: Associate Diploma of Applied Science in Landscape (including Horticulture)

Mrs. Baines has been a Cornerstone parent since 2008 and elementary and secondary teacher assistant since 2015. She now expands her role to include teaching the elementary Farm2Fork electives and managing Cornerstone’s garden and greenhouse. Please get to know Mrs. Baines.

I was born and raised in Australia where my parents were and still are avid gardeners. I have been married to my husband, Andrew for 21 years and we have 3 children who all attend or attended Cornerstone. We have been blessed to be a part of the Cornerstone family for the past 14 years!

I completed a four-year apprenticeship in gardening (horticulture) and continued my tertiary education, obtaining my Associate Diploma of Applied Science in Landscape. I trained in Sydney, Australia where I worked at one of Australia’s leading Horticultural schools. During the 12 years I worked in the horticultural industry, I worked at the Sydney Botanical Gardens, The University of Western Sydney, and a regional hospital, managing the grounds.

I have always loved to dig in the soil, grow plants and maintain beautiful garden spaces.  I am so excited to share this passion with our students at Cornerstone Prep. One of the most satisfying things is to grow your own fruit and vegetables, then prepare and eat good healthy food. But more than that, I love the Lord with all my heart, mind, and soul, and there are so many lessons to be learned in the garden that parallel our walk with the Lord.

Dr. Kathryn Clark

Secondary: Chemistry/Biology
Education: BS, Chemistry, Furman University; MS, Chemistry, Georgia Institute of Technology; Doctor of Pharmacy, Mercer University, School of Pharmacy

Dr. Clark is a practicing pharmacist who is now adding Cornerstone Prep faculty member to her extensive resume. Please help us welcome her.

Hello Cornerstone families. I am Kathy Clark. I am very happy to teach Chemistry and Biology to your students this year at Cornerstone. My family has lived in the Acworth area for 17 years. My husband, Brian, and I have four sons: Matt (24), Joseph (22), Daniel (20), and Andrew (16). Matt and Joseph are 2LTs in the US Army; Daniel is a college junior at Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Florida; and Andrew is a junior at North Cobb Christian School. All of our sons were (or are) competitive swimmers. We attend County Line UMC. Our three oldest sons are Eagle Scouts; Andrew is working on his Eagle. Yes, I am the only female in the house, except for one of our dogs, Abby!

I earned a BS in chemistry from Furman University in Greenville, SC, and an MS in Chemistry from Georgia Tech before I went to pharmacy school to earn my PharmD at Mercer. I taught chemistry to undergraduate engineering students while I was at Georgia Tech. I really enjoyed finding ways to make chemistry relevant to my freshman engineering students who were forced to take freshman chemistry. For the past 25 years, I have worked in various roles as a practicing pharmacist. I hope to bring those experiences to show my chemistry and biology classes how the science God has created is put into practical use.

Amy Kotula

Secondary: Geometry
Education: BA, Sociology, Samford University; AS, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Chattahoochee Technical College

Mrs. Kotula has been a Cornerstone parent since 2014 and became a regular classroom substitute during the 2020-21 school year. Please help us welcome Mrs. Kotula as she follows her love of teaching math and transitions in her career from Occupational Therapy to the classroom.

I am very excited to be a part of the Cornerstone faculty! My husband, Kevin, and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary next month. He has been a coach for the Cornerstone boys' soccer program for the last several years. We have two children: Jake and Danny. Jake is a rising sophomore, and Danny is a Cornerstone graduate currently attending Lipscomb University in Nashville. We reside in White, GA with two dogs and a flock of chickens. When not at Cornerstone, I enjoy reading, cooking, serving, traveling, attending sporting events, and hanging out with friends and family.

Our previous Geometry teacher, Mrs. Monica Smith, will be moving to Algebra II and Mrs. Kotula will be stepping into the Geometry faculty position.

Audra Thompson

Secondary: 9th Grade Lit/Comp Teacher and Secondary Writing Center
Education: BS, Secondary Education, History and English, Pensacola Christian College; MA, Teaching, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

Mrs. Thompson has already been hard at work this summer as she has worked alongside Mrs. Manning in the new high school writer's workshop. Please help us officially welcome her to Cornerstone.

My name is Audra Thompson, and I'm very excited to be joining the Cornerstone family this next school year! I graduated from Pensacola Christian College in 2019 with my B.S. in History Education and minors in English Education and Political Science. English quickly became my favorite subject to teach, and I decided to continue my studies in English by completing an M.A.T. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at Kennesaw State University. My desire has been to teach in a Christian school that highly values God's Word and teaching academic content from a Christian perspective. I am very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of a school that prioritizes both!

My husband and I met while we were in college, and we were married in January 2020. (Even though he's a Michigan State fan and I like UGA, we somehow make it work!). He is currently the youth pastor at Harvest Baptist Church in Acworth, and I have been working as a graduate research assistant while completing my masters' degree at KSU. We're looking forward to how God is going to continue working through us now at Cornerstone Prep!

Current Cornerstone Staff who are adding faculty roles to their current administrative responsibilities:

Brandon Nolan

Elementary: 5/6 Boys’ Bible and Middle School Bible
Education: BS, Psychology, University of South Florida
M.Ed, Masters of Educational Leadership, Covenant College (currently enrolled)

Pastor Nolan currently serves and will continue as Director of Campus Ministries and Student Life. Pastor Nolan has been at Cornerstone since 2009. He split his time between the classroom and student ministry during those early years and is excited to now re-enter the classroom as he continues to pursue his passion for teaching God’s Word to students.

Lori Smith

Elementary: 3/4 Bible, Skills, Drills, and Thrills
Education: BS, Psychology, North Georgia College
Masters, Christian Education, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

Mrs. Smith has been a Cornerstone parent since 2017, quickly moving from assistant to her current role as secondary front office manager. Teaching one of the new elementary Bible electives is a perfect fit for Mrs. Smith’s background in children’s ministry and Christian education, and she is excited to add this role to her current responsibilities.

Please join us in welcoming them to the Cornerstone family and visit the Meet Our Staff page for more information.
